eating disorders & body image
who do you see?
Jaci has a passion for working with adults who have difficulties with eating and body image concerns.
'Eating disorders' encompass a broad range of symptoms including overly restrictive food intake, binging or over-eating, low body weight, intentional compensation for eating, preoccupation and dissatisfaction with one's body and/or appearance, shame, guilt and/or secrecy.
do I need a special referral?
Psychology sessions can be partially subsidised for clients who are referred by a GP and have a treatment plan.
If you struggle with eating or body concerns, you may be eligible for an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP). An EDP can give you access to up to 40 subsidised sessions with a psychologist, as well as up to 20 with a dietician in a 12-month period.
what does therapy look like?
is recovery even possible?
Therapy can bring up all sorts of uncomfortable feelings....fear, anxiety, uncertainty, hesitancy. We will spend time understanding where you're at in your journey and therapy will go at your pace.
Taking a multi-disciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, Jaci will spend time assessing your eating and exercise habits and history, body image, mental health, and other lifestyle factors. This helps to understand triggers, behaviours, thought patterns, and how your eating disorder has kept itself going. Doing so means we can tailor the coping mechanisms and strategies that will work best for you.
Eating disorders can have serious impacts on mental and physical health. They have the highest mortality rates of any mental health conditions. Your wellbeing is first and foremost, as such it is important that as part of your treatment Jaci be able to liaise with your GP and dietician (if relevant).
There are undoubtedly challenges along the road to recovery but with the right support and your commitment, we can achieve your recovery goals. Reach out to Jaci today.
